A
grant of $20,000 was received from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship
Program that is administered by the Wisconsin DNR to constuct
a much-needed playground for the park. An additional $15,000
was raised from Friends, supporters and local businesses.
In kind volunteer time contributed the final $5,000 of matching
funds.
The playground
design fits the look and feel of New Glarus Woods perfectly
and is another significant step toward making the Woods a
recreation and environmental education destination.
Phase II of this
project will include instructional signage, a boardwalk into
the woods, log house, grassy berm explorer rooms, explorer
paths and landscaping. The theme of the playground is “Wisconsin
Is” and will reflect the natural, cultural and historical
aspects of the driftless area of Wisconsin. |
