Peter Etter will provide narrative for entrants in the Männerchor New Glarus' Trachten Contest and Dinner scheduled for April 20.

 

The Männerchor New Glarus will be observing the arrival of spring with a Maitag (May Day) Trachten Contest and Dinner on

Sunday, April 20 starting at 3:00 p.m.
at the New Glarus Hotel, downtown New Glarus, Wisconsin. 

Any traditional dress of European origin, not just Swiss, is eligible to be worn and entered in the contest.

Peter Etter, member of the Männerchor New Glarus, will act as master of ceremonies and provide narrative for entrants in the apparel contest.  Prizes, furnished Hans Lenzlinger of the New Glarus Hotel, will be awarded in a variety of categories.  Specatators are likewise welcome.
 
Interspersed with contestants modeling their apparel, the Männerchor New Glarus will perform several musical selections.  The group, which is a member of the North American Swiss Singing Alliance, participated in the 2006 triennial Swiss singing festival and competition in Toledo, Ohio.
 
Immediately following the contest and musical performances will be a traditional Wienerschnitzel dinner prepared by Chef Lenzlinger. 

The cost for the entire afternoon, including contestants' entry fee and dinner, or specatators' admission fee and dinner, is $20.  For children 12 and under, the cost is $10.00. The deadline for entries and dinner reservations is April 14.  Checks should be made payable to the Männerchor New Glarus and mailed, along with completed entry forms, to PO Box 476, New Glarus, WI  53574.
 
The 25-voice Männerchor New Glarus was established in 1928, and has hosted New Glarus' annual Swiss Independence Day celebration, Volksfest, for most of its existence.  With members from New Glarus, Monroe, Blanchardville, Brooklyn, Madison and Verona, the group's performances of traditional German men's choral music and Swiss-dialect music are heard at many of the area's major events.  The group has also performed at Daley Plaza in Chicago; as guest artists with the Madison Männerchor, Milwaukee Liedertafel and Milwaukee Liederkranz; and at the Green County Fair.
